Salmon and sea trout are valuable in multiple ways. The job of the Trust is to show people how both species can be conserved and managed to enable their value to society to be realised sustainably. To this end, the Trust’s work concentrates on improving our knowledge of these fish, their habitats and their complex and fascinating life histories. In recent years the AST has focused its efforts on its Sea Trout Research Programme and on developing ways of learning more about salmon at sea, in particular their migration routes and possible cause of increased marine mortality, described under AST Projects.
