Large illegal gill nets seized off Cornish coast

The BBC reports that the Environment Agency seized the nets after getting a tip-off from a member of the public.

The nets, close to Looe,  were more than half a mile (800m) in length and contained about 200 fish including 67 bass and 74 wrasse.

The Environment Agency old the BBC that fixed surface nets are prohibited in certain areas around the coastline to protect fish including migrating salmon and sea trout.
